A Rare Opportunity to Lead an Established Structural Engineering Team

Our Winchester Structures team has a strong reputation, an established client base and a growing presence across some of the UK's most significant programmes in defence, healthcare and education. As demand continues to increase, we are looking for a Regional Structures Lead to take ownership of the team and play a key role in shaping its future direction.

The appointment forms part of a wider strategic plan for both Winchester and Ridge's national Structural Engineering business, providing leadership and growth for the regional team while enabling the current Structural Partner to focus on expanding our National and discipline-wide activities across the UK.

This is an opportunity to lead an established team, build on strong client relationships and help shape the future growth of Structural Engineering in the region.

The Role

As Regional Structures Lead, you will:

  • Lead and develop a Structural Engineering team of around ten professionals within a larger Civil and Structural Engineering group.
  • Provide technical, commercial and operational leadership across a varied portfolio of projects.
  • Build on existing client relationships while helping secure future opportunities.
  • Support recruitment, mentoring and succession planning within the team.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Project Management, Architecture, Building Surveying, Cost Consultancy and Engineering disciplines.
  • Contribute to regional business planning, resource management and growth strategy.
  • Maintain high technical standards while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and commercially.
  • Support wider structural engineering initiatives across Ridge's national network.
  • Have significant influence over team development, client relationships, recruitment strategy and future growth plans for Structural Engineering in the region.

What You'll Be Working On

You will lead projects across sectors where Ridge continues to see significant investment and long-term demand, including:

  • Defence and secure government environments
  • Healthcare estates and NHS developments
  • Education portfolios from schools to higher education campuses
  • Commercial and mixed-use developments
  • Refurbishment, retrofit and building re-use projects

Our Structural Engineering teams work across steel, concrete, timber and hybrid structures, combining rigorous engineering with a practical understanding of funding, planning, construction and long-term asset performance.

About You

You are :

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer with a strong technical reputation.
  • Currently operating at Director, Associate Director, Regional Lead, Head of Structures or Partner level.
  • Experienced in leading teams, developing client relationships and overseeing project delivery.
  • Commercially aware and comfortable helping shape business growth.
  • Committed to developing people and building successful teams.
  • Looking for a role where you can influence both strategy and delivery.

Most importantly, you'll bring sound judgement, leadership credibility and a practical approach to problem solving.

Why Ridge

Ridge combines the breadth of a national consultancy with the relationships and agility of regional teams.

Our structural engineers work alongside architects, project managers, building surveyors, sustainability consultants, cost consultants and building services engineers, giving clients access to joined-up advice and giving our people exposure to a broader range of projects, sectors and opportunities.

About This Team

The Winchester Structures team works across new-build, refurbishment, retrofit and asset reuse projects, supporting clients throughout the project lifecycle.

Strong relationships across defence, healthcare and education have created a solid platform for growth, making this an exciting time to take on a leadership role within the team and its future direction.

This Office

Our Winchester office is based in Kings Worthy, just outside the city centre, with strong connections across the South region.

It combines the benefits of a close-knit regional team with access to Ridge's wider national network of expertise, projects and clients. Hybrid working is well established, with colleagues typically spending around three days each week in the office.
